Obituary For Elizabeth Carolyn Gardner
Elizabeth Carolyn McAfee Gardner went to be with the Lord on (June 15, 2022). Elizabeth was born in Houston Negro Hospital on May 3, 1943. She graduated from E.O. Smith Elementary School; Phillis Wheatley High School; and the University of Texas at Austin.
While a student at UT-Austin, Liz became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority (Epsilon Beta chapter in 1962). Elizabeth earned her degree in Education and became a speech pathologist for Houston ISD.
She married her college sweetheart, Charles Gardner, in 1966. They were married for ten years.
In March 1972, Elizabeth gave birth to her son Kristopher Morris Gardner.
Liz had to retire from teaching at 40 years of age due to Multiple Sclerosis. Years later, her left leg was amputated at the hip due to bone cancer. She endured numerous disabilities -- including early onset dementia -- throughout her adult life before passing away at 79.
'Baby Sis' was preceded in death by her parents John Miller McAfee and Elizabeth Caroline Kingston McAfee; sister - John Marie McAfee Thompson Bennett; and brother who died at 6 weeks of age due to pneumonia. She leaves behind her devoted son Kristopher; caregiver Janie Murray; and numerous family, friends, and loved ones.
